Esser Grant

In March 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act, also known as the ARP Act, was signed into law. This grant is known as the ARP Act ESSER III. The intent and purpose of the ARP Act ESSER III education funding are to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impact of the coronavirus on student learning.

In August 2021, A+ Unlimited Potential Charter School (A+UP) applied to receive its allocation of the ARP ESSER III funds. These funds will be used to address the impact that COVID-19 has had and continues to have on student learning at A+UP.

A+UP took input from stakeholders on the best use of the ARP funds. A+UP had a family meeting by Zoom where families provided feedback on the plan. The Board of Directors met by teleconference to discuss options and provide guidance. Students were met with in-person and by Zoom for feedback. Teachers were met with in-person to receive feedback. All stakeholders were also given a survey where they registered their input by stakeholder category.

A+UP will utilize its ARP ESSER III funds to address issues that have arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the ARP ESSER III funds, A+UP is required by statute to set aside 20% of their total allocation to address learning loss and to develop two safe plans: Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Service Plan and Use of Funds Plan. These plans are linked below and will be reviewed and revised as necessary every six months, if not completed sooner.

A+UP conducted surveys of students, staff, parents, and community members in May and June of 2021.

As a result of our survey, A+UP has made the following decisions with ESSER funding:

Hired extra staff for students with special needs

Doubled the amount of time provided by our school counselor

Added support for teachers in training for teaching the curricular standards

Kept a broad focus on programs that impact all students
